A primary care provider (PCP) is who you see for regular checkups, ongoing health conditions, physicals, vaccinations, and preventive screenings. Many BCBSTX plans, particularly HMO plans, ask you to select a PCP so your care stays coordinated.
Urgent care is for problems that need attention soon but aren’t life-threatening — things like a fever, a sprained ankle, a bad cough, or a minor cut that needs stitches. You don’t need an appointment, and you don’t need a referral.
At Lone Star Family Care, we offer both. Some BCBSTX patients use us as their everyday PCP; others come to us specifically for same-day urgent care when their regular doctor isn’t available. Either way, you’re seen by the same experienced provider.
Our Irving clinic handles most non-emergency health concerns for patients age five and up, including:
- Cold, flu, and respiratory infections
- Fevers, sore throat, and ear infections
- Minor cuts, sprains, and injuries
- Nausea, vomiting, and stomach illness
- Back pain and muscle aches
- Sinus infections and allergies
- Routine physicals and preventive visits
- Chronic condition management for existing patients
If your symptoms are severe — chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, or a serious injury — please go to the nearest emergency room or call 911. Urgent care is meant for conditions that are uncomfortable but stable.
To help your visit go smoothly as a BCBSTX member, please bring:
- Your current Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas insurance card
- A valid photo ID
- A list of any current medications
- Your primary care provider’s name, if you’re required to designate one under your plan

Care at Lone Star Family Care is provided by Zainab Javed, APRN, FNP-BC, a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner and the clinic’s founder. She has clinical experience in primary care, urgent care, critical care, and case management, and treats patients across all ages five and up. Zainab is fluent in English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi, and she also offers preventive care, medical weight loss, and IV hydration therapy alongside standard primary and urgent care services.
