A primary care provider (PCP) is who you see for regular checkups, ongoing health conditions, physicals, vaccinations, and preventive screenings. Texas Medicaid managed care plans generally ask you to designate a PCP so your care stays coordinated.
Urgent care is for problems that need attention soon but aren’t life-threatening — a fever, a sprained ankle, a bad cough, or a minor cut that needs stitches. No appointment is required, and no referral is needed.
At Lone Star Family Care, we offer both. Some Medicaid patients use us as their regular PCP; others come to us specifically for same-day urgent care when their regular doctor isn’t available. Either way, you’re seen by the same experienced provider.
